About Me
Hi, I’m Lizette or Liz to many! I am a 35 year old woman navigating the wonders and snags of motherhood, career, home-life, self-love and delicious food. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and my husband and I are now raising our two boys right on the outskirts of the city.
I wholeheartedly believe that I am in control of my own happiness and I try and look at life with positive eyes and a bit of a whimsical attitude. I absolutely love laughing and I appreciate a good sense of humor and strong cup of coffee.
Family is everything to me. These two little humans are the center of my universe and I’m loving every moment with them. Elias is my first born and he is my sweet little Teddy Bear! He is so gentle and he has the biggest most tender heart. Although he’s my mini-me in appearance, his artistic soul and overall personality are an exact reflection of his father. Thomas is my baby boy, he is my loving, unapologetic, audacious little Dinosaur! His fearless curiosity and feisty lively personality keep us all on our toes…. I have no idea where he might have inherited such a trait lol!
I married this tall handsome guy, Jose. He’s an amazing cook and that is an understatement. Most of the recipes you’ll see on this blog are Jose’s doing. I mostly assist with eating, cleaning up and prepping (sometimes). He once asked me to pass him the vanilla extract and I gave him red food coloring. It was a very delicious pink cheesecake in my opinion, but I’m still working on redeeming myself from that one. More important than being the best cook in the world however, Jose is an even better father to Elias and Tommy.
Jose and I don’t always agree on things, in fact, we have very different opinions and ideas. He likes to take his time and plan out the details and I’m quick to act on instinct and figure it out as I go along. But when it comes to core values and fundamentals we are usually on the same page. We certainly don’t have all the answers to marriage and parenting but I’m very lucky to be figuring it all out with him.
I earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History in 2007, I know it doesn’t sound very exiting but I absolutely LOVED IT! My initial goal was to venture into education. Unfortunately, it was around this time that the Great Recession hit and opportunities in education were scarce for a fresh college graduate. In the fall of 2008, I got a break in the Social Services sector which astoundingly became my career path. Throughout the years however, my initial passion and attraction for teaching and training has continued to fuel me. In the various positions I’ve held throughout the years, teaching others, helping them grow, learn and feel empowered have been 100% the most rewarding moments of my career. I truly believe this is why I LOVE BLOGGING so much, because it provides me with these exact opportunities!
I love working, concocting new projects, learning and exploring; the little caffeine infused, brown and white hamster with black square framed glasses in my head is always on the go! However, as soon as I became a Mother, the most rewarding job of all, my priorities instantly changed. I was overwhelmed with a JOY and a LOVE I never imagined existed. The beauty of Motherhood made it extremely easy to neglect just about every other passion in my life. As my infants transitioned into toddlers, I stumbled trying to find my way into a healthy, balanced routine. Elias and Tommy will always be the center of my world, but in order to provide them with the best version of ME, I knew I needed to reconnect with myself in a holistic way.
I started Oops Not Sorry out of loss for myself. And although I don’t have much of it figured out, I have learned the importance of harmonizing the important pieces that make up my life. For me, this includes unifying motherhood, home-life, my career, my own personal interest and of course eating lots and lots of delicious meals. I never imagined that a simple act of self reflection would lead me here; I am forever grateful that it has. I do not by any means consider myself an expert in the subject matter I write about. Simply put, these are my experiences and insights and I am very passionate about them!
