Toddler Haircuts: Challenges and Success

Today was a huge milestone for our family, I mean HUGE!!!! Elias sat through an entire  haircut and Tommy got his first facial shave!!! I choke up just thinking about it!! Elias got his very first hair cut when he was a little over 1 and it was the perfect experience. Perhaps because he didn’t know what was happening, but he didn’t move, he didn’t cry, he didn’t whine, he posed for pictures. IT WAS PERFECT!!!

Then came the 2nd and I’m not sure what triggered the change but it didn’t go so well; he hesitated, he cried, but he got through it with encouragement. The 3rd was more challenging. He began to fight it, he kicked, he screamed, he cried, he wiggle and moved, he didn’t get through the entire session! By the 4th and 5th attempts, Elias was boldly refusing. He was kicking, screaming, crying hysterically. It was a tantrum at its finest and anxiety for all us involved. Toddler haircuts increasingly became a dreaded task.

I tried every recommended tip and trick on toddler haircuts: bribes, toys, phone time, candy, I even took him asleep one time. We tried cutting his hair with scissors only, we encouraged him to hold the clippers & scissors (with supervision of course), we had him watch his little brother get a haircut before his got his to show him everything would be okay. I went to every recommend kid friendly, adult, specialized salon and barber, most of them turned us way as soon he began refusing to even sit on the chair, or they didn’t finish the session. Budget Friendly Kitchen Remodel: 5 Easy DIY Steps

Now, I may or may not be known for being just a tad bit impulsive… and it may or may not be probable that I could have possibly jumped the gun without fully thinking this project through before I started. HOWEVER…thanks to my alleged unconfirmed reactive state of being, I now have these 5 WONDERFUL HELPFUL AMAZING TIPS to share with you on how to do a DIY budget friendly kitchen remodel! Stay tuned….

We purchased our beautifully dated 1940s home in the Summer of 2016. To me, it was the perfect house to turn into our home; I fell in love with it the second I walked in!! Something felt impeccably right and comforting and safe and heartwarming about this home. It reminded me of my first childhood home where many many happy and warm memories were created.  Perhaps the feeling spawned from seeing the gorgeous lemon tree in the beautiful backyard or the large windows that paved way to the gorgeous lemon tree in the beautiful back yard…or maybe it was the sweet moment when I met the then homeowner. I recall the warmth in her voice as she shared and reminisced with us about her experiences growing up in the home. She spoke so proudly of the home, her sibling and her parents who I think had been living in the home since it was built. Maybe it was my pregnancy at the time, but I walked away from that first visit feeling extremely emotional and attached to the home. I was ready to sign my life away and start nesting. I immediately knew that this was the right home for our growing family.

We bought the home knowing that it had great bones, and 2 years and a few months into living here, it is still clear that the family before us really gave the home tremendous love, attention and care. However, it is also transparent that this is an older home and the fixtures and accessories are warn out, dated and… well… not really our style. We have a very solid vision of what the home will look like once we win the lottery. Unfortunately for us, we haven’t won, but after 2 years I wanted to feel like we were making some progress towards updating the home. A full remodel isn’t really an option at this time and so a kitchen “face lift” or mini DIY budget friendly kitchen remodel was my intermittent solution for this beauty!

Dinosaur Party Ideas: Tommy Turned 2!!

My baby boy is 2!!! I swear it seems as though it was just yesterday that he was a new born in my arms. And now he were celebrating his dinosaur party! I feel a knot in my throat thinking about how fast he’s growing up. Time is slipping right past me and I don’t want to miss a thing! My little man is fast developing his own little feisty personality, he’s my Mr. Independent, always saying “I do it myself” and getting mad when I try to help him.

He’s frequently plotting some unnecessary ploy and as his Mother, of course it’s my responsibility to redirect his behaviors. But my goodness how I adore that mischievous look and smile he gives and that wrinkled nose he makes right before he’s about to get into some trouble. Sassy attitude and all however, he is such a sweet boy and I can’t get enough of him.

I had a blast planning his birthday party and by the looks of his outfit at the end of the night, I think it safe to say he did too! I’m still trying to wash out the mud, candy and cake stains from his costume!

We had a dinosaur theme costume party with close family and friends and my cutie looked sooooo adorable!! I “tried” to be a little more budget cautious with decoration this year.  So, as I always do, I gathered inspiration from my sister who had the amazing idea to use cardboard to create portraits. Erika has ALWAYS been extremely talented, creative and frugal. I feel like she could build a house out of scraps! Being that she’s also the artistic one, I asked her make dinosaur portraits as a backdrop and OH MY GOSH they looked AMAZING!!! I couldn’t have asked for more! These pictures do not do justice to how beautiful the portraits came out! My brother also made wood dinosaur cutouts and their rustic look where a perfect accessory. …
